Honeybee by Naomi Shihab Nye, Lauren

Happy summer, friends!

I've been reading this small book of poetry while at a two-week conference for teachers (1,300 teachers in one room together -- whoa). Naomi Shihab Nye uses the life of honeybees to think about our own lives as readers, writers, friends, citizens, and members of ecosystems. She pushes readers to think about these important relationships in new ways. In those moments when the conference is starting to feel like a buzzing hive, I really connect with Ms. Nye's thoughts about community and individuality.

This book is great for readers who want to be surprised and moved by powerful poetry.
